Cleaning Marble Flooring

Marble flooring is one of the most beautiful flooring among other flooring options. It looks elegant when they are used in home, offices, public buildings, flats etc. Marble flooring is one of the most expensive flooring because of its beauty and features. Through it is one of the expensive flooring the major advantage of it is that it is extremely durable as compared to other inexpensive flooring. It is also available in various designs, textures and colors to suit your home decor. However one of the drawbacks is its maintenance. As marble is sensitive and porous in nature, it needs maintenance and care which is to be given regularly. It should be cleaned with natural (ph) solution to remove strains on it. Following are the methods which you can use for cleaning and maintaining your marble flooring:

 Common cleaning solutions for marble floor:

Marble is one of the delicate stones. Though it looks elegant when installed, it requires care and maintenance in order to sustain its charm and beauty for longer period of time.  Here are some basic tips for cleaning marble.

Everything stains in this type of flooring. Therefore it is advised to use clean cloth for mopping the floor. It is advised to sweep the floor daily with clean water and cloth. Do not add any type of acid into the water as it will create holes on your flooring. After sweeping do not allow the water to settle down as it can create water spots. Dry the flooring after mopping it. You can use neutral cleanser dish washing soap to wipe the marble atleast once in a week.

Marble is a soft and porous in nature. It is softer than granite. Splits of acid can make the marble dull. Therefore it is advised as not to use any substance which is acidic in nature. Spills of substances like vinegar, tomato or lemon juice or orange juice can harm your flooring and will make your marble flooring dull with permanent strains. Also do not use any acid to clean the flooring because that will destroy the shiny surface with etching.

Kitchen is the place where we often use vinegar, citrus juices etc. Therefore if you have marble flooring in the kitchen then it is advised to be very careful with the above mentioned substances.

Marble is a sensitive stone and does is prone to develop water strains also. Do not allow the water to get dried on the floor as it can lead to permanent water strains. It is advised to wipe out strains immediately. You can also use liquid hand wash soap to clean the spots and strains. There are also many marble cleaning agents available in the market for removing strains.

Ideas for removing tough strains:

Coffee Stains

There can be chances of getting coffee strains on you marble flooring. In order to remove them, add neutral agent to the warm water and then wash it. If still the strains stay then you try the second method. Wet a paper towel with hydrogen peroxide and then place it on the stain. Cover it with the plastic and allow it to dry fully. Keep it for at least one day. Then rinse the strain with clean water. If still you can see strain, repeat the above steps.

Oil Stains

If there are oil strains on the flooring then take cornstarch and apply it on the strain. Cover it and allow it to dry at least for a day. This will absorb the oil. Now add dish washing detergent into warm water and wash the strain. If strain is still present then repeat the steps.

Methods for cleaning bathroom marbles:

It is advised to clean the marble with clean and dry towel after every use. This is help in preventing soap scum. Also make sure that you clean the flooring or tiles with neutral detergent once in every week. Apply the detergent with soft sponge and then rise it with water and buff dry.

You can also use solution of ammonia and water to clean the soap scum on surface. Take around half cup of ammonia or bleach and add it to with one gallon of warm water. Apply it with the help of soft sponge and buff dry. It is advised to always wear hand gloves while using bleach or ammonia.
