As per the Science of Vastu Shastra eight major directions have been identified, on which all activities are based. Every direction has its own meaning and significance. As per Vaastu Shastra, if all the rooms and working spaces in the house or in the office are oriented according to these directions, it has a direct and a positive influence on the residents. The layout of any house or office and the corresponding functions of each room have been mentioned in Vaastu Shastra.
There are total of eight directions, the directions North, South, East, and West are called cardinal directions and the point where any of the two directions meet is called intercardinal or ordinal point like NorthEast, SouthEast, SouthWest, NorthWest.
Eshaan i.e. Ishwar (North East): This direction is governed by lord Eeshaan, and is a source of wealth, health and success. He grants us wisdom, knowledge and serve all comforts and relieves us from all sufferings. Suitable for open space, Water source and Puja Room/meditation room.
Indra (East): This direction is governed by lord Indra. He is the king of angels. He gives us wealth and pleasures of life. Ideal direction for Main doors and windows, Bathrooms.
Agni/Fire (South East): This direction is governed by lord of fire- Agni. He gives us beautiful personality and all the best of life. Suitable direction for Kitchens.
Yamaa or Yamaha (South): This direction is of Yama, he is the god of death. He is embodiment of dharma. He eradicates evil and grants all good things. Suitable for Office, Children’s bedrooms, Store rooms.
Nissan or Niruti (South West): This direction is governed by Niruti. He vanishes fear about our enemies. Suitable for Master bedroom, safe, wardrobes, library.
Varun (West): This direction is governed by Lord Varun. He is god of rain. He showers his blessings through rain and brings prosperity and pleasures in life. Suitable for Children’s bedrooms, study room, Bathrooms, Toilets,Trees.
Vayu/Wind (North West): This place is governed by lord Vayu. He bestows on us long life, health and strength. He is the basic of all life. It is a source of change in course of business, friendship and enmity. Ideal for Dining room, Kids Rooms, Toilets, Garages.
Kuber (North): This direction is governed by Kuber. He is god of wealth. He grants us wealth and all comforts of life. Ideal for Living Rooms, Open Spaces.
